Message from the President

I take great pride in having been elected the President of the A.T.S.A. for the year 2008. This is our 83rd year as a Professional Fleet Maintenance Organization. This organization is comprised of a diversity of public, municipal and private fleet Managers. We also have a contingent of technical and O.E.M. / aftermarket service associate members. The A.T.S.A. members and the knowledge they bring to this organization is beyond belief. Our number one goal is to aid each of our members in any way necessary for them to achieve a level of professionalism, which will keep their operations in the top quartile of the industry benchmarks.

Our organization is honored to fund the Henry Cernota Scholarship Program. Each year, the A.T.S.A. awards scholarships to students enrolled in automotive/truck training programs at local colleges and technical institutions. We feel that it is our job to help train our future Fleet Maintenance Managers.

If you feel that you would like to be part of this organization, please fill out a membership application. We always welcome new ideas and new friends.

Sincerely yours,

Joel Evert

About ATSA

The Automotive Transportation Supervisors Association is the oldest professional fleet maintenance managers association in the United States. Organized in 1925, A.T.S.A. has an unbroken history of promoting excellence in professional fleet management practices. Our members represent the best and largest private and public fleet operations in the greater Chicago area. A.T.S.A. is an incorporated, nonprofit association to the enhancement of the fleet maintenance management profession for its members.

GarageThe Automotive Transportation Supervisors Association (A.T.S.A.) was created on February 3, 1925 in a meeting held at a Commonwealth Edison Garage in Chicago. The twelve fleet maintenance managers attending represented the following fleets: The Chicago Herald-Examiner, Peoples Light and Gas, Commonwealth Edison, The Fair Store, Consumers Company, Illinois Bell Telephone, The U.S. Post Office, Standard Oil, and the Railway Express.

By October 6, 1925 the seventh meeting of this young organization was held and the By-Laws were presented and approved. Annual dues of $10.00 per member and candidates would have to be responsible for a fleet of at least 50 vehicles.

Through the ongoing dedication of its officers and members, A.T.S.A. has survived a world wide Depression, World War II, and the extraordinary challenges of trucking deregulation in the 1970's. A.T.S.A. members recognize and are inspired by the efforts of past members, many of whom were true giants in the development of the commercial transportation industry in Chicago.

Today, A.T.S.A. members willingly volunteer extraordinary amounts of their free time and energy to insure the strength and viability of our organization. Our members are all active in the real sense of the word; they are all expected to serve on and perform work for at least one committee each year.
